engine diffs? 78 3600 vs 74 3000

got a 74 block, sleeved and ready to build. Head from motor is freshened. Both block and head are the same as 78 3600, right?

Block and head are basically the same and will interchange - 3000/3600.
The heads are slightly different so you will need to use the correct intake manifold. Other than that you'll find no surprises.

Dunno if one is better.
IMO newer is usually better when it comes to Ford tractors.
Here's a theory:
The 3600 with the oval holes might be because the bigger tractors of that era were all getting turboed. They were a modular engine - 3,4,6 cylinder. Most of the internal components were shared between all three sizes. As I suppose were casting cores.
Others here could tell you more about the big Fords and why they made the changes.
By the way, did they ever turbo a 201?

Yep, Ultra is rite. Back in 75 or so at a Ford service school in Grandview Mo they told us the round/oval intake has better flow than square did.

AFAIK, no, not from the factory. But I think I remember seeing a video of a turboed 4000SU or 4600SU. Ford did offer a turboed 192 (?) for a couple years, so parts from that should fit a 201.
