suggestions needed

i would like to cover the cutting edge of the bucket and use it to push snow on my black top drive way.
what would work ?

Roll the lip up a big so it rides on the heel of the bucket...
I always bear down quite heavily on the cutting edge to actually clean the driveway myself...

buddy of mine in indiana took a section of 2x6 a bit longer than the bucket, and bolted it to the underside of the bucket so that a 2" lip of wood protruded as the 'cutting edge'.

he bolted thru the floor of the bucket using carriage bolts and large washers or back plates as needed at wood and bucket floor. the carriage dome heads went onthe underside, with bolt shanks sticking up in the bucket.

Roll the bucket back so the cutting edge does not hit or take a piece of heavy say 2 inch pipe and cut a long slit in one side and bolt that on the edge of the bucket

I bolted a 3 inch pipe to my grader blade. Perhaps you could make a pipe with two brackets and bolt to your bucket.

Dont know where you live, but I agree with Rod. Let the first snow freeze down good if you have gravel. If you use too big a pipe it will just roll over the base. I never had a problem once it froze down. Might be different if you live in warmer climate where frost goes out every day. I dont have that problem.

Nice setup George! Do you use that on gravel? I have a limestone area that I don't want to spread all over the lawn.

I use it on my concrete drive and 8 gravel drives. I drag my snow into the road or leave it at the opposite end of drive. Don't like to leave rocks in grass.

I built this last year. We didn't have any snow in Indiana to see how well it works.

I can say the slag pip will never be removed from on the blade. If the gravel in drive is a little loose, the pipe will level the rock out without digging in too far. I love it. I level the gravel drives before it snows, that way I'm less likely to remove gravel.

I would recommend you try it. It was easy to make.

I made the holes in the three brackets a little larger than needed for wiggle room. Bolted the brackets to the blade, lowered the blade until the brackets came in contact with pipe and welded in place. Removed bolts and welded the other side.

There is no way I could cut a pipe long way in half and make it look nice. Not to mention the amount of gas and O2 I would use.

Don't have a picture of it (them) but I tried a piece of sch 40 pvc split and put over the cutting edge, but all it was ride up on the snow as it packed down.

I saw a set of clamp on fork lift bars and got the idea to make a set of "skids bars" for the bucket. 2x2 square tube about a foot long. in the middle cut a "V" in it (only cut three side). Bent and welded it up to form roughly 135 degree bend in the tube. Cut a second about 8-9 inches long to match the angle (should be a 45) and welded it it to the first so it would slide on (over) the bucket edge. Drilled a couple holes the the second, now top piece and welded a nut to each hole to clamp it in place (two clamp bolts each piece).

Whats nice about it is I can still keep the down force on the cutting edge but only leave 2" of snow. But you will have to empty that bucket every so often, it doesn't push it off to the side like a blade does.
