Jetbird 10-05-2012 21:12:21 68.112.236.249 Report to Moderator	My Ford 3400 3 cyl gas has had its wiring harness eaten by mice. The New Holland official parts site names it C9NN14A103B for the front harness and C5NN14N104R for the rear. This site lists a harness under the first number that replaces both front and rear, but says it is for diesel tractors not gas. The New Holland website lists only one set of numbers so is the harness the same for both diesel and gas? I can't buy the dealer wire set since it totals $250 for the front and rear, vs. $43 for both on this site... any info appreciated. [Reply]   [No Email]

If I am guessing right it goes from one of the low-voltage terminals on the coil then over to the ignition switch? I will have to check that out. Take a look at this photo of my coil. What is that little can that looks like a condenser doing connected to the coil and screwed to the coil mounting bracket? I ordered a new coil from my New Holland dealer (since the high tension connection on the top is broken) and I don't know if it will have that little "condenser" on it or if I need to reuse it... I know next to nothing about my wiring/ignition system. I am somewhat inclined just to buy the harness, since it seems cheap enough. I could probably use some help setting it up, though. Greg, I would definitely like to have you come out for that visit soon. I will have to check with my wife to find a good time. I think she may be getting a little tired of being a "tractor widow". I fired the tractor up for the first time since july today. I now have new ps pump, new ps lines, rebuilt steering box, new inner and outer axle oil seals, new brakes, new fuel pump, new exhaust header, new tach cable, new hydraulic filters, new cap, rotor, plugs. The only difference between the gas and diesel harnesses is the diesel has a big 10ga? wire that goes from the ignition switch to the thermostart glow plug in the intake manifold. You will use that instead to power your coil. The original gas harness has about a 5' resister wire that was folded into 3, wrapped with tape and powered the coil. Save that, connect it on the end of the 10 ga wire and re hook to your coil. On the switch end of the 10 ga thermostart wire you will have to cut the big spade clip that plugs onto the back of the switch and replace it with a 'normal' size one. EZ [Reply]  [No Email]
Greg Wolodkin 10-06-2012 04:23:56 96.252.121.186 Report to Moderator	Re: Wiring harness in reply to Jetbird, 10-05-2012 21:12:21   Hey Jetbird - It's pretty easy to either make a new one or (more likely) simply repair any sections that have been damaged. I've got the wire, the marine grade crimp connections and a decent set of crimpers if you want to go that route. I've done that job on two other Fords of the same vintage and there just isn't much wire to run. The one exception on the gasser might be the resistance wire. Mine was in good shape so I re-used it. I think that could simply be replaced with a coil resistor if necessary, or you could maybe switch to a coil with the resistance built in.
