1953 600 carb on a 1957 860?

My 1957 860 has a Marvel-Schebler TSX-428
carburetor on it from the previous owner.
The TSX-428 model carb lists that it came
on a 600 series Ford. Is there any reason
why this combination shouldn't work. I have
always seemed to have a problem getting the
860 to run smoothly. It always wants to run rich.
Thanks ahead for any input. ~D. Olsufka

The TSX-428 carb is the one that as per the catalog I use as a reference is for a NAA not a 600. There are in fact 4 carbs listed for the 600 series tractor the TSX 765 692, 500, 580. The 860 tractor has the larger 172 engine so with that carb unless the man jet has been drilled out or replace it might well starve for gas and not run as it should

ditto what old said. it should actually lean out at high rpms, and possibly run out of air, IF you were trying to use all 45 ponies. if not using all 45 ponies, it will run fine.

I, in fact, have a 428 carb, which I believe is off a naa, on my 950 right now. i had to jimmy the fuel line with some brake line and custom bending.. but it fits... but is the small factor carb.. small mouth etc..

I mow with that tractor fine.. mind you i'm pulling a 5' mower and not using many ponies....

you could drill a jet out.. but still you have the small mouth issue...

William,
I ordered a new Zenith Carb for my 860. When
I receive the new carb and get it swapped out,
I will send you the TSX428. All that I ask is that you agree to pay for shipping which shouldn"t be too much. It would just sit around on a shelf, so I would be happy knowing someone can use it.
Send me where you would like me to ship it to and I will get it to you when I have the new Zenith. ~D. Olsufka
