Well, got "big blue" busted off yesterday with my auxillary gas tank and rebuilt carb installed, runs fairly well, does sputter a bit when the throttle is opened, but if you pull choked it doesn't the fuel pump is unhooked and just gravity feeds from tank would that cause that? And also do I still need to use an orc when bushhogging??? thanks in advance

12 forward and 3 reverse? Sounds like a 4 speed with a Sherman combo. Is there a single stick shift on top that has 4 forward and 1 reverse speeds, plus a handle down on the left side of the transmission that shifts between low, medium and high range? If that's what you have, then it's a transmission driven PTO, and yes, you need an Over Run Clutch (ORC) when running a bush hog.

When you mention fuel pump I assume you have a 3 cylinder model?
If you still have the holley carb it probably does require higher than gravity fuel pressure to operate properly.
ORC depends on whether you have live pto or not.
With lpto you don't need an orc.

Don't know how to tell if I have live PTO all I can say is that the PTO does stop when clutch is pressed, but it doesn't have to be depressed to engage the PTO. Mostly what I have ever been on are N series. Thanks

you should be using the clutch to engage the pto.

with no load on the pto it will engage without the clutch.. but with a laod on it it will grind.

use the clutch

On a 2000 with lpto when you push the clutch halfway down the tractor will stop.
If you push it all the way down the pto will stop.
Tell us what speed your tractor has 4, 6 or 8
or better yet post all three lines of code that are stamped just above and aft of the starter.
Folks here will be able to tell you exactly what you have.
You might have to scrape off some paint to see them.

I have the 12 forward 3 reverse transmission, which i might add might sound impressive to some, I can't imagine you ever needing to use anything other than low range, it is an extremely high geared tractor
