Model 740 Ford Tractor

The 700 and 900 tractors were not offered with WFE. The next series - 701 and 901 the narrow or wide front was optional.
Lot of changes could have been made in the 60 years since your tractor rolled off the line.
Someone could have installed a later model front end or even an aftermarket (Shwartz)front end.
Are you sure your tractor is a 700 and not a 701?
They are essentially identical tractors.

The 2 piece pedestal which is required for a factory wide front axle became standard equipment on the 700 and 900 series tractors in 1957. If the 740 in question left the factory with a wide front it should be stamped 740-5 in the transmission housing above the serial number.
A photo of the front of the 740 will tell us whether it is factory or aftermarket.

it came out at the very very end of it, as by mid 57 58 model year was tooling up... My guess is few 00 actually got them.. I bet more 00 have been SWAPPED to them than actually got them, from what I see. Of course.. the 700 are so reare around here anyway.. hard to say.

take a pic of the front axle and front bolster.. and of the model id on the trans bellhosuing aft of the starter.
