4610 hydraulic remote

This weekend I was pulling a round baler for the first time in 10 years. The remotes have not been used since then. I had a hard time keeping the tail gate closed. About the time the roll got ready to tie off the tail gate would pop open. After going though the latch adjustment several times i realized the hydraulic cylinders were creeping back up once I closed the tail gate. If I hit the remote leaver every 20 or 30 seconds to keep the tail gate latched I never had any problems.

How hard are these hydraulic remotes to rebuild? Just o-rings I am guessing. Mine is the single leaver type that sits right under the seat.

I hope this is my problem. When the tail gate is raised all the way up it will leak back down in just a few minutes. It did not do this when I was rolling hay with it years ago.

Thanks for your responses.

I rebuilt one of the cylinders last week. I bought the baler 3 weeks ago and 1 cylinder was leaking out of the end. Turns out the previous owner had put a seal in backwards. I don't know what seals they replaced or if they worked only one or both cylinders.

Since I ordered 2 complete seal kits I will rework the other one. I saved this one for later since it was not leaking. May have been wrong if it is leaking past the piston.

I wondered about the remote valve because I have seen new cylinders on a grain drill leak down connected to it but like I said it has not been used in 10 years now.

i would deffinately look at cyl seals first.

I am guessing that the seals in the cyls of the baler are to blame. As the chamber is filling with hay, the pressure bleeds off and the door drifts open. Just like the door drifting down.
I would look at those seals first.
To confirm you could try poping the hoses with the door open. I bet it still drifts down. If it drifts down, the seals in the cyls are bad, if it stays up then its the tractor.
PS Some balers have a pressure release that keeps the baler pressure from getting to high. That circuit could also be a "leak down point".
