I picked up a gas tank for my re power
821 backhoe and I seem to be missing the
mounting holes on the front side of the
tank.
I know it is not made to fit for the 801
engine but I am on a fixed budget, and
will make it fit.

The three pictures below
illustrate the tank, shield, and
bracket layout.

I have circled an area that I believe
should have holes in the mounting plate.
The shield and rear bracket all have holes.
But the front is missing holes.
HOW CAN THAT BE???

I know the back plate is fiber-glassed
reinforced onto the tank but has been
there a long time.

I understand I will need to raise the tank
to fit the 801 (HOW MUCH?).

I will make a customized gas line.

thanks for all help

THANKS in reply to corvetteguy, 09-10-2012 05:35:20
Thanks guys for the quick response.
I got it figured out with your help.
I put a bolt and washer under the broke out
hole for the front and mounted the brackets.
I also spaced out each bolt by 2 flat washers
and 1 nut, so that the tank will sit about
.6 inch higher.
Got two pictures of it installed on the
801 engine.

Another question on filter
I got the sediment filter on this site, I
see where the gas line hooks in, but there
are no threads on the mount to carb.
Do I need some kind of brake-line fitting?

The sediment bowl assembly mounts to the carb inlet with a special bolt that goes through that horizontal hole at the top of the assembly. I'm sorry I don't have a photo of the bolt you need, but it's not just an ordinary bolt. It's hollow and has holes in the side for the gas to go through. Hopefully someone will have a photo of what you need.

The New Holland site calls it the Fuel Filter to Carburetor Stem. P/N 313382 is for all tractors up through 12/31/1960 and p/n CONN9A349B is for tractors after that. There are also a couple of gaskets needed, one between the bolt head and the sediment assembly and one between the sediment assembly and the carb. P/N is NCA9918A or NCA9918B depending on which stem you need.

I got all these numbers off the New Holland site. I couldn't find a source for the stem. Maybe a NH dealer can still get it.

Messicks might be a source. They quote $42 for the later one. For the early one it just says "Call".
Click on Fuel system, then Fuel Tank Lines & Related Parts.

Check item# 26 in the diagram.

Sounds a lot like a wheel cylinder
fitting. I bet it calls for copper
washers.

This isn't the best pic for your purposes, but it shows an 801 tank next to a 601 tank. It looks to me like the mounting rail on the underside of the 601 tank is the same as what you have. I still have the 601 tank and could take better pics if that will help. I don't have any of the other stuff (heat shield, mounting brackets).

I've never had a 601 or 801, and the 901 has been gone too long for me to remember for sure... but I think they mount the same as the tank on my Jubilee. The front bracket is bolted to the tank with a single bolt, going in the slot on the front of the tank.I believe there's a spring on that bolt as well - it isn't tightened against the tank, the spring provides the tension.
I don't think you have to raise the tank, either. The engines in 601's and 801's are the same size externally. It's the size of the gas tanks that differs.(means there will be room between the tank and hood if you use a 601 tank under a 801 hood)
