860 Power Steering pump problems

I'm converting an 860 to power steering...my problem is, that I took a working pump off a 971 and after a simple clean-up and paint and reinstalled it...it doesn't have any pressure. This is the pump that has the resevoir on the back. Is there a need to prime or bleed something on these pumps after they have been drained. Any advice is appreciated.

Any power steering pump can get air bound, you should however hear a buzzing sound while the pump is turning which indicates air in the system.

There is a filter in your reservoir that may be plugged. If you haven"t checked it, it might need changing.

To purge the power steering system:

1) Fill the reservoir.
2) Steer full right.
3) Refill the reservoir.
4) Steer full left.
5) Refill the reservoir.

Normally, that"s all there is to it.
