Hi,

My 640 has an aux hydraulic valve fitted to the top cover. There's a
little stubby splinedshaft coming through the front of the plate
that I assume used to hold a knob with which to divert hydraulics
to the rear fitting rather than the 3 pt lift. Its about 5/16 diameter
and closely resembles the sort of shaft that is used for old-
fashioned water faucets. I looked in my FO-20 but all it shows are
the aux hyds that have their own spool valves, which this is not.

Can someone tell me

(1) what sort of knob or lever gets fitted to the shaft? A pic would
be great

(2) can soemone confirm/tell me the method of operation? I
*assumed* its a diverter to choose between 3 pt and rear hyds, for
trailer plows and discs, but again, I don;t know and the FO-20
isn;thelpful.

thanks in advance,

Bill

Search for Selec-Trol valve. It does just what you say, diverts the hyds from the three point to a port and locks the three point in postion. The quadrant control is used to operate a one way cylinder. Here is one Soundguy posted some time back. There are several types and it may not look exactly the same.

That is it!

thank you.

Dumb question: Knob in or out, or turn clockwise/counterclockwise?

It sounds like you have a diverter valve. Such valves divert oil from the hydraulic lift to a remote cylinder in an either/or fashihon.

Most llikely the original Bakelite knob has deteriorited and broken off leiving only the molded in sleeve.

The sleeve may be brass. If so, it will be a simple matter to carefully grind nearly to the threads in order to split it for removal. It is unlikely that you can simply thread it off without disassembling the valve so as to securely hold the spool.

A useable replacement knob should be readily available at a good hardware store.
