Leaking fuel return lines will make a "mess" but not a "miss". Sounds as if it's a timing problem, bad injector or faulty engine cyl head valves.

Ken, would run some really good injector cleaner through it as well..

I prefer bg 44k injector cleaner myself. Then you'll be good for another 40 years or so.

There will be a dowell on the gear. As long as you don't remove the gear from time... you just unbolt the gear from the pump and remove the pump.
IIRC, those gears are slotted to give the final timing adjustment... This is done by looking in the timing window on the front of the flywheel housing under the starter... as well as a timing locating pin on the rear end of the pump cam shaft. You set it so that the pointer on the pump shaft points at a mark on the body while bringing the flywheel around to the specified advance...

BEst advice... get a manual for the tractor and review the procedure yourself and get the correct spec from the manual because I don't remember it with certainty off hand.

No dowel on the gear for an inline pump Rod. A person could get the timing way off and not have a clue.
