Hi guys another question I just got a ford 961 diesel and was wondering if it would be able to handle feeding round bales on a regualar basis dont have it running yet so dont know what its capable of. also can you put another set of hydrolic remotes on these tractors?
thanks again, Shayeton

Depends on the round bale. The last ones I weighed tipped the scale @ 2130 pounds.

yep.. 6x6 will be a no-no or a wet bale.

That's the reason I switched to a heavier superior 2 post laoder, as some of my rounds were coming in over 1300# which is the working limit on those 1-arm loaders..

I hauled a few round bales (either 4x5's or 5x5's - can't remember) on the 3-point of a 950 that I used to have. Handled them OK, but could have used more weight on the front.

ok I went and measured them they are 5x5 bales so I think most of the bales we have when baled weigh between 1200-1500 LBS

Yes, but I would not recommend doing so unless it has the optional wide front axle.

Nearly all 961s have at least a single spool remote, and either single or double spool remote valves can be added if yours does not.

ok yeah it does have a wide front end I figured if it could handle it I have some old suitecase weights off of my our old case 2390 and make a weight bracket. on the hyd remotes it has a one duel spool remote Im looking to add another duel spool remote if it can handle it but on the other hand It only holds two gallons of hyd oil doesnt seem like much to me?

A dual spool remote valve has two spools, two control handles and four hydraulic connections. Is this what your tractor has?

If the internal sump seals are in good condition, you can fill the hydraulic sump to recommended level with all cylinders extended (unless, of course, you have abnormally large cylinders).

no my tractor has one lever and two hydraulic connections. Idk what the capacity is on the implements but im wanting to swath hay with it and run a dump cylinder on a 300 bushel wagon. and possibly in the future a dual action loader

You have a single spool remote hydraulic valve.

Though a bit hard to find and not cheap, dual spool valves are available for your tractor. A dual spool valve will allow you to operate two seperate remote hydraulic cylinders independently of each other.

Let me know if you need one as I believe that I have a spare.

for the top cover, a dul spool is the limit it can have. mind you.. one of those spools can vfeed an aux valve.. like a loader joystick that you mount to a fender.. etc. keep in mind it is a 4gpm system.

as for the sump.. it holds 2 nominally.. but will hold 3 easilly... and if you are using DA cyl's.. just get them full then top off the sump.. da cyls, are *ALMOST* sump neutral in operation, as oil is either on one side or the other as they are running.

the running gear will handle bale movement.. it's at the end of the tractors capacity.. but it will do it. I moved round bales on my 850 with a 711 1-arm loader for YEARS. and I believe the wide front on that rowcrop is likely a lil better setup than an ag wide front..

pic is a 1000# tifton bale that near split and rolled off my hay trailer.. I ratchet strapped it into my bucket to run it over to my feed lot. I have a concrete weight on the back of my 850. that setup there was pushing the tractor tot he max on hyds and counterweight.. but she did it for years. if my 850 did it.. your wf 961 will too.

Ok that sounds like it should work!! I plan on using a bale fork on the 3 pt since it doesn't have a loader, I've been hearing
Alot of good things about these tractors especially the wide fronts which if I didn't know better I would've assumed the narrow fronts would me better because of steering. Shayeton

the rowcrop narrow front will turn on a dime and give you 6 cents change.. the wide front is still VEry NIMBLE THOUGH.. NO LESS NIMBLE THAN A STANDARD AG model.

here's my 63 4000 she's a 4spd with a sherman combo.

powermaster was the name given to all 801 and 901 tractors.. and even the very late 800 and 900.

workmaster was the name given to all 501/601/701 tractors.
