I have a 1964 Ford 4000 Select-O-Speed. The tractor has run like a champ for years. When I wend to start it this weekend, the fuel tank was completely empty. (I had recently added gasoline to it.) I then checked the oil and the oil has gasoline in it. The antifreeze is as it should be without any oil or gas in it. What should I be looking at to correct this problem? Help is greatly appreciated.

ditto what larry said.

1, you didn't turn gas off under tank, and / or that valve leaks.

AND

2, the flaot valve in your carb leaks.

may be a bit of dirt int he seat.. a slow leak.. or ready for rebuild.

change oil and filter.

add gas to tank

take air hose off carb.. see if any fuel leaks out after a while...

many times a bit of dirt in the seat can be flushed out and or dislodged by removingthe drain plug from the carb.. turning gas on and letting it flow a few seconds.. a rap ont he side of the carb with a hammer HANDLE will help sometimes. this also flushes and water droplets or sediment that may have settled right around the drian plug inthe carb.

i just rebuilt the carb in my 63 4000 this weekend after the jiffy store gave me a load of crap gas...

post back

them carbs are pretty forgiving and ez to rebuild.

i cheated adn just mad my own gaskets out of thin board and an xacto knife and rebuilt mine with carb cleaner and spray and a wire.. runs like a scalded dog now that all the goop is out of it.. :)

your needle valve in your carburetor stuck open or isn'r sealing properly any longer. Most of us shut the fuel off at the bottom of the tank when we park these.

Drain your crankcase, replace the oil and filter and don't leave te gasoline turned on when you park it in the future.
