About a month ago the fuel tap on my "62 4000 gasser started to drip. Both the fuel line and flip-type tap had to be replaced. I got a new fuel line from CNH (for $102. !) that was good quality, but bought the tap from one of the many on-line suppliers. As you guys know, changing the tap is a pain just trying to get your hand in there especially with a 703 loader frame in the way. But, I got it in and hooked up. I left the sediment bowl off and put in some fuel and to flush it a bit opened the tap. But when I flipped it to the closed position, the tap didn"t shut off all the way and fuel continued to trickle out. Nothing I could do about it. Needless to say I wasn"t happy. The box for the tap said Tisco on it but the part was made in India. 38 bucks for a piece of junk that doesn"t work and now I have to do it again. My question is, would I expect any better quality part if I get it from CNH (for big bucks, probably)? |

| | I'm not sure why your CNH fuel line cost $102, as none of the OEM style CNH fuel lines that I have bought have cost more than about $65, though it's been 3 or 4 years since I bought the last one. Until recently, my CNH dealer always charged me list price though now he is giving me a small discount, usually around 15%. Dean |

| The new CNH fuel line for the 961 was about $65, I guess because it is a smaller (1/4") line and due to the tap and carb having smaller flare fittings. Both lines have a rubber section to allow proper fit and maybe to keep heat absorption from the manifold to a minimum. That's why I just didn't make one myself. |

| | "Some do but not the fuel line." He was complaining about the fuel tap. I have 3 NH branded ignition switches to fit 3 cylinder gas tractors on my monthly parts return. I'm not going to screw around with this crap. They look like the products of a Chinese mental asylum and don't show consistent readings on an ohm meter. As someone who wants to sell parts that at least FUNCTION, I have to keep tabs on every part that may have multiple sources so I can sell reliable products (maybe). Every supplier seems to have junk and good stuff mixed throughout their offerings. |

It seems that it is in the hands on of the final retailer to do the quality control that SHOULD have been done by the manufacturer.
If the final retailer is not familiar with the parts he sells, and does not know how those parts are SUPPOSED to function, then the junk parts end up in the hands of the final customer and we ALL get a bad rap. |

| If you can afford $102 for a fuel line what ever the cost of a CNH fuel valve should not be a issue... Match that line up with a good valve...
TISCO some of their parts a junk and some as good as it gets at 1/3 the price of OEM a fuel valve is questionable tho...

| Repair old one not hard-------replace old o ring with a good one---------I have repaired both kinds------screw-lever---good lasting results |

| | The poor quality of many (most? all?) aftermarket parts is well known. I have had numerous bad experiences with aftermarket parts from various suppliers, including TISCO and do my best to avoid such. In years past, the lever style fuel valve sold by CNH was made by Tillotson. I have used several of these with mixed results. These days CNH sources many parts for vintage tractors from aftermarket suppliers, no doubt, the same suppliers that manufacture the parts for the aftermarket suppliers. Before replacing your valve, lubricate the extended shaft (valve open) with light oil and allow the valve to snap shut several times. Subsequently, upon shut off, always allow the valve to snap shut. It MAY shut off if you do so. Routine lubrication of the shaft often helps the shut off problem. Dean |

| Thanks, Dean. I'll give that a try. I also replaced the fuel tap and line on my 961 gas about the same time. It is the screw type and it does work, at least for now. It's a good thing the carb is in good shape on both tractors. Appreciate the help. |
