Hi folks,

I have been tinkering with my buddies 861 and was wondering what is the correct oil for the power steering system?

Any other tips on the PS system on these? It seems to work ok, but is somewhat noisy at the pump.

Thanks

Chuck

1962 was the last year of the 801 series from what I have heard. Any how on my 841 I use ATF in the power steering. I tried the UTF once and it did not work well so switched back to the ATF and it works just fine and has for the past 25 or so years I have owned it

as ud said.. a 63 with a 172 engine and live clutch is a 4000

but anyway.. UTF is the usual fare.. though she will steer with just about any oil in there from 10wxx to 30w to atf, to real power steering oil.. even straight hyd oil.. iso 32/46 stuff.

go wth utf meeting m2c134 spec and you will be fine.

It probably wouldn't hurt to change the filter in the reservoir. Likely hasn't been done for 50 years.
Most of use here use generic UTF or HyTrans that meets Ford 134D specs. Can be fpound at Wall Mart, F Farm, Tractor Supply etc. Will say meets or exceeds Ford 134D in small print on the jug.
One oil to keep on hand for the PS, tranny hydraulics and rear end.
I think the 801 series ended in 1961 or so.
So that tractor is probably a couple of years older. Not that that matters...
