Hoping for a little guidance here. I have a late 50s model 861 that acts like it's vapor locking after a few minutes of running. Doesn't seem to matter too much what the outdoor temp is. I've played with fuel line routing and checked the bowl screen and gas tank filter. There's no external gas filter. I get some boiling in the gas tank, is that normal? When I pull the choke it'll run ok for a couple minutes then start to buck again. I rebuilt the carb and nothing changed. Not sure what to do next. |

| | once you spark test it to decide whether fuel or electrics as AWHTX suggested.. if it is fuel.. see if choke helps.. then see what if any tank vacume you have.. be carefull. next.. see if there is a restriction in the flow to and thru carb post back |

| Good suggestions. I've already checked fuel flow, though to be honest it's still possible a passage could be gummed up in the carb. For the couple bucks a condenser costs that's an easy one to just replace as a test. Thanks. Will post back after I have a chance to check these out. |

| | swapping in an unknown part is rarely a good test. a condensor may be bad out of the box. this really sounds like fuel.. not a condensor. if it is an open condensor, the points will burn.. if it is a shorted condensor the spark will be weak. is spark is weak.. post back. |

| On most a suging engine is caused by lack of fuel as in a clog in the man jet and some times that is a simple easy fix by pulling the air cleaner tube and fire it up and put your hand over the air intake and hold it there just long enough for the engine to die down but pull your hand off before it dies. Do that 2 or 3 times and a lot of times that is enough to suck the dirt out of the main jet and then the problem goes away |

| Old, been a while since I did that but it works most of the time. Learned that trick on my "63 Chevy with the 2 barrel Rochester carb. |

| Next time it does that immediately pull a spark plug wire and using an old plug with the gap opened up to at least 3/16" check for spark. My 851 was doing something similar and it turned out to be the condenser. |
