I’m looking at a 1964 4000. It shows on the dash (below the steering wheel) a o/u diagram however I can’t locate a shift lever for the o/u. Is this something that may have been installed when the tractor was repainted and really doesn’t have o/u at all? It also has a 12v positive ground battery but all other electricals appear to be 6v. I can’t tell what the generator is or I don’t know how to tell. It starts and runs fair. What am I looking at here? |

| I think you stated it correctly. You'll find that some folks on these boards engage their keyboards before reading the post that they're responding to very thoroughly.  |

| Or just put a 12 volt coil on it. I think the NAPA part number is IC14SB |

| Any generator can be converted from 6v to 12v so you may need an expert to look at it and check the draw of the field coils. The size of wire in the field windings tell the voltage. Is the regulator is marked? |

| The generator is a solid casing with no vents that I can see. |

| | Apparently, you are speaking of a Sherman combination transmission decal. If the tractor such transmission it will have a cast iron, dog leg-shaped shifter on the left side of the bell housing beneath the steering arm. If it once has such transmission, it will have a hole for the shifter. I assume that it has a four speed main transmission. It may have an incorrectly done 12V conversion or, more likely, someone simply put a 12V battery in it without any other changes so that it will start easily for sale purposes. Do the lights work? Does it have a 12V coil or a ballast resistor? Dean |
