Have a Ford 800 engine to put in my 821 Backhoe. (got backhoe with a 62 Jeep engine). Removed distributor to paint engine and marked rotor position. Tried to put back in and won"t go down the last 1/4 inch. The gears are engaging. Flywheel was not turned. What am I doing wrong??? |

factories using what was on the shelf,
then, since it's not really a sediment bowl anymore,
some enterprising engineer probably re-named it,
'an easy-clean see-thru inline fuel filter' :D |

Just curious, how is sediment supposed to settle if its upside down?
I always thought these things worked on the same basic principal as
a septic tank.
I know I've cleaned enough crap out of them to qualify! |

Unless we are going blind! Upside down was common on many cars during the 40s-50s. |

| Is that an upside down sediment bowl attached to the fuel pump in that picture? |

| Quoting Removed, click Modern View to seeReason I asked, I would expect that you had to get a "real deal" on it if it were still working. Large (even medium) power units are not cheap, paid several thousand for an 'old' one powered by 6 cyl Ford, last year. |

| Good deal. Glad it worked out for you. Was the power plant generator bad/scrap? |

| No I bought the "working" 800 stationary power unit because I need a complete 800 engine for my 821 back hoe. It came to me with a butchered bell housing and a 62 jeep 4 cylinder. I wanted to go back to a regular ford engine so I need everything.I am still short 1) hydraulic pump. 2) Air filter and tube. 3) choke and throttle rods. 4) Radiator. I think I can cobble up everything else. I still have the power unit so maybe I can trade or offset the costs so far.. |

| Quoting Removed, click Modern View to seeIf the gears are re-engaged as before removal, it should end up the same as before. Keeping in mind that as distributor drops that last 1/2 inch, the rotor will turn a little more. Once it drops, you can back up the flywheel to starting point to verify. |

| Quoting Removed, click Modern View to seeGear on cam drives distributor & bottom end of distributor shaft drives oil pump. BOTH have to line up. Once cam/distr gear engaged, hold distr with hand & bump engine with starter & it will drop in. |

| | Thanks I'll try it, Unfortunately I will probably loose my timing. My next question will be How do I set timing. Starter is off engine but I can turn flywheel. Motor is on engine stand. George |

| It worked like a champ. I guess the oil pump moved a little. I set the rotor and rotated the flywheel about 20 degrees when the dist fell in. I rotated back to the mark. Unfortunately I had to try twice to get the rotor in the right position. I took an overhead picture to help with the registration. I figure she should start right up.Now to sell the ford stationary power unit the motor came off. Thanks George |
