This little toy is just down the road. What should i look for if i go for a test ride? How can i properly check out the SOS? How does the differential disengage from tranny? How does the steering assist work?
Temptation

You must be right down the road from me. The little Ford is impressive. Chris started it for me yesterday. It runs great. Power steering works great. He says the transmission is good. I've dealt with Chris and his Dad in the past. They've always been super to deal with. Bought a 656 Hydro from them back in the 70s. Hydro was shot. They didn't know it when they sold it, but fixed it up properly at their expense on an as is deal.

if that thing wasn't in nebraska.. it would have already been sold as I'd have called down there and bought it onthe phone I think. :)

that's a good price even for a danged sos.

traction disconect is a strap onthe center housing at seperates the pinion from the coupler.

that power steering works fine, if it works. as you can imagine, t's rpm based / pump output.. lower rpm.. lower output.. slower response. faster rpm.. more output.. faster response. i move 1200# round bales on my front loader with ford power steering like that. rpms up = ok.

with no laoder.. that probably steers like butter.

she looks good.

make sure she starts cold and hot.. has ok oil pressure..test her out in all sos ranges.. make sure they still run when hot.

check pto operation.

all the usual stuff.

if checks out.. good deal

and when i say down the road, i mean i think i can see the roof of the building from my bedroom window.
gladd to hear you have good experience with them.

did you get it, 2ru? I hadn't bid on it for a couple days. If crops had looked better this fall, I mighta run it up more.

nope. i didn't. i didn't have complete approval from daBoss anyway. i went to look at it today. it didn't start right up. looks like there could have been some leaks to take care of too. the guy who started it up tyler? turned it back off pretty quick and i didn't get to drive it any. after the way it started i didn't push it. he was trying to sell me a yamabotadeere in the mean time. it was OK, but not to die for. he mentioned you were there earlier this week.
do you summer in KS? i live about a mile south of Waverly. i have a 2N and was looking for live pto and hydraulics. maybe later.

I do more than summer in Kansas. My base of operation is here. The only reason I have a Lincoln home is bacause my wife insists on living there.
