Had some trees cut down and stumps ground at the back of my lot last week. Borrowed a 5 ft box blade from a buddy and went to work with my 641. Worked a couple hours pushing pine straw and debris off of the ground and back into the edge of the woods. Spread dirt and leveled area for seeding. Lots of forward and backward moves, up and down with lift. Tractor handled work well, would have done better with traction if I had fluid in tires, but I don't for several reasons, I can see why the local landscapers like the new hydro drive tractors such as Kubota etc. for this kind of work. 4 speed is awkward, shuttle shift would be easier. My neck is sore from looking back at the blade. All things considered, she did her job with no drama, especially considering that she wasn't designed for that type of work... No leaks or heating observed(90+ degrees today). |

| Good post Bill. Yeah, it's fun to get on them and work the snot out of them now and then. I agree at times like you mention it would be nice to have a shuttle shift tranny. On a 3 cylinder it's even worse as you're dealing with two sticks and not just one. On the other hand have you priced a new 34 - 40 HP Kubby, JD or NH lately? Once you get over the price shock you'll actually love shifting your old Ford. |

| You're right, Ultradog.. I love the tractor more every time I use it, especially when I consider what I have in it vs a new one, plus the fact that it was built in 1959 when our country was really rockin'. (hope to see that again before I die) Forgot to say that I gave it a good bath before I put it up. Tractor sleeps in the shop right between my lawn mower and my old Harley. |
