finally got some use out of my woods 6500 hoe.

since I got it last year it's been at my stepdads place doing work for him ;)

back when we got it, I was considering that hoe or one of those tow behind models at northern tools / harbor freight. after looking at the use that's been done and seeing both ( have a local northern tools with 1 in stock ).. i think I easilly have made the correct decision going with the woods 3pt hoe. blew the pressure line on the pump but it had been kinked and I knew it was gonna go eventually. 32$ later and it was up and running again.

gug out some old drainage tile at a friends house and then pulled out a hedge row where he was going to finish up some dog fencing. his dogs dig bad so we were putting in 6' chain link burried 1' to make a 5' fence above ground.

hoe worked perfectly. I like having the 90' side swing arc for dumping dirt.. the hf/nt model only has a 60' side arc.. plus is run off a 2.7gpm pump on a 8hp lawnmower engine.. :)

kinda nice having it on a tractor to maneuver back in to a place.. even nice mounted on a tractor with a loader. :)

subframe and beefed up top cover mount supports I built worked ( and has been ) working perfectly.

i knew she worked.. my stepdad has had her all winter.

he used her a bunch.. then let her set. bat died.. I charged the bat, draind a cou of old gas to clear the carb and lines.. add a couple gallons new and some atf.. ran paper thru the points.. cleaned the plugs with some paper and spray cleaner and she banged right off.. then blew a hose. replace dthat and a couple gal hyds fluid and she dug good. first i've actually got to work with her.

can't complain.. stepdad did pay for most of the hoe.. only fair that he got to use it first.. :)

yep.. this 6500 is slightly undersized for an 850.. but I like that. built in margin of safety.

do tie in / make some sort of extra bracing.. makes all the difference.

I dug a few test holes just using the 3pt setup.. then welded in the extra bracking and support cage for the center section and top cover and tied in as many bolt on places as I could to the axle trumpets sides and the top cover and center section as I could. don't ignore the 3pt rockert connection either. stabilize it so it does not beat up the draft mechanism.

I made a slip cage that fit over my 3pt rocker and holds it rigid.. uses a long pin to go thru cage and rocker and toplink on hoe.

Glad to hear that. I use one on my small Kubota, Mostly to dig graves in tight places. Sure it is slow but still a lot better than a shovel. Most times I dump the dirt into a lawn trailer to haul away.

i have pigs, horses and cows.. so having the ability to dig a large grave comes in handy.. hadn't thought about keeping a 10cf wheelbarrow nearby.. have tarped the ground before...

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see

When we had sheep I used to dig a grave every fall just in case. I would throw two bales of hay in it, so even if it got to twenty below during lambing I was ready.
