I am about to repair a '65 Ford 3000 SOS with what I think is a bad input shaft and/or torque limiting clutch. I am looking for suggestions on tips and techniques for that job. I do have a shop manual and have made connections for parts. What is the best way to do this job to avoid adding to the problems? I have split tractors before but never worked on an SOS. |

| Front split. If input shaft needs to be removed you'll need to use one of several techniques to retain the thrust washer if you do wish to tear the ttransmission down completely. IF gets to the point of removing input post back and well talk about it. |

| Fordfarmer has it right, TLC is front split only, exchange or repair TLC and replace. Input shaft is a different story. Requires a double split and complete tranny dissemble. A repair trick on shaft splines has a good track record. Grind the input shaft square, weld a 3/4 drive socket to the TLC. And re-assemble. Your good to go. More details, if you need, depending how hard you work the tractor. |

| The split is the same as a standard shift. If the TLC has failed, that is an easy job once the tractor is split - unbolt from the flywheel and replace. Input shaft will be more involved, and I'll defer to your shop manual or someone who has done that before. |
