Hi again folks. I am thinking of taking on a new project. I ran across a 4 cylinder 4000 tractor model 41202 with a serial number of 39849. From what i have found, this is a 1964 5 speed with live pto made in Jan of 1964. I have couple of question on it before I dive in.1. Tin work (hood) is shot and welded on. I have a some tin for an 871. If I use this hood with the straight middle piece, are the mounts for the grill in the same place from 4000 to 801. I would hate to used the tin and get a new grill and the bolt holes not line up. 2. I have found places that sell the grill, here included, but have not found the lower part of the grill. Anywhere it is available? 3. It looks like the clevis that the upper link of the three point mounts to is damaged. Can that be switched out by removing that large pin or is that next to impossible? 4. Were power adjust rims available on the 4000 series or were they just the loop rims? I have looked at a lot of pictures of the 4000, but none of them were equiped with PA wheels. 5. As I will be buying this tractor non running, I will just presume that the 3rd and reverse gears are worn bad and need replaced. Are parts available for this and is this a job for a semi- challenged person such as myself. I am mechanically inclined, have tools, just never been in a 5 or 4 speed. Thanks in advance and if anyone has a nice 4000 grill upper and lower, I have 801 pieces available. |

| 1) I believe they are the same but I never tried installing a 4000 grille in 801 hood. 2) Used parts. 3) You will need to remove the large pin that goes through the "ear" on the rear axle housing. I have seen some just fall out and other times I've had to heat the "ear" and drive the pin out with a large hammer. 4) I'm not at home or I'd look in my 4000 Owner's Manual and tell you for sure. 5) It's not the gears that wear out- it's the teeth on the sliding coupler that wear out and result in the trans jumping out of gear. |

| | Thanks for the replies everyone. I will probably give it a shot, as I seldom buy something that runs. Jason |

| | I bought the same tractor once, not running. Guy asked me to make him an offer. He said it wasn't running and the last time he tried to get it running it had no oil pressure. I offered $1000 and he took it. I should have told him i'd take it off his hands to save salvage costs. I thought the best and got the worst. Rear main was shot and had to OH the engine. Soooooo if it tain't runnin, don't offer very much. Tain't running can hide a multitude of sins. My answer to your questions is that probably the only difference in these tractors is the color of the paint, different material and logo on the grille, and a little silver clip on the front of the cowl where the old Jubilee insignia went years earlier.
