"Old" Ford Blue

just got to thinking today, as I was raking hay with my '97 8670 Genesis tractor, that "old Ford blue" was the longest used base color by Ford or NH on their agricultural equipment. It came into play on 1963 model tractors and stayed until late 2000 or early 2001 when they changed to "new Ford blue." The blue color has changed a couple times since then under CNH management.

I remember this change because I put an NH 7514 FEL on my 8670 in January of 2001. I'd raised the question of what color the loader would be with my dealer. Through some process I determined that we could spec "old Ford blue" on the order and told the dealer so. The order sheet clearly did so but the new loader came in painted "new Ford blue." Dealer said he was going to mount it and see if I would accept the error. I made him take it back off, disassemble it and repaint it properly.

Frankly, I think the "old Ford blue" was best looking of any of them.

Since they haven't been allowed to use the Ford name on new products since the mid-90's, I would call a color change in 2001 the new "New Holland blue".

They weren't allowed to use the Ford emblem after about '94 or '95. My '99 8770 still has the Ford name on it in block letters. At the time of paint color switch NH dubbed it old Ford blue and new Ford blue!

You learn something new every day. I had always heard that they couldn't even use the Ford name after sometime in the mid 90's. So much for "everything you read on the internet is correct". :D

Jan 1 2000 is when Ford New Holland Officially became New Holland under Fiat.

That is teh day they couldn't use the ford name anymore.

I worked for a larger Ford New Holland dealer from 1994 until 2001. I was there for the switch. My father worked for Ford from 1975 until 2008. any questions about any of that stuff, ask me, I'll ask him. He is quite a guru on that stuff.

I'm just a chip off the old block, but, I was there for all that stuff.

I run a New Holland 8670, 2000 model year. It was the switch point between old ford blue and new holland blue. It's a good looking machine no matter what shade you paint it, and I love the powershift transmission. It's the closest I have ever come to feeling relaxed while working. Those cabs are incredible.

I hope you like yours. I actually have slept in mine. I was pretty excited when I first got it.

The Genesis tractors are incredible. I don't think there's been a tractor built yet that will equal what the Genesis is and has.

I'm fortunate enough to have an 8670 and an 8770. Little brother now has an 8770 as well.
