5600 hyd SVC locks up

I'm having a problem with the SVC control lever locking up on my Ford 5600, while raking hay with a new to me V-rake, I've had the control lever lock up and not let me expand or contract the hydraulic cylinder on the rake. I have to shut down the tractor, and then I can move the lever. It’s to the point now that every time I fold the rake in it locks up. What could cause this and how do I stop it? It has happened a few times on the disc, but is really bad on the rake

does the valve spool move smooth with the tractor off?

are you using a da port to control a sa cyl and deadheading one side of the port?

are your quick connects hooked up good, so that if a da cyl, make sure that one side is not deadheaded ie.. return of cyl to tractor slightly unplugged.. etc.

Spool moves smooth with tractor off, I can feel "notches" lit retract, extend, float? nothing rough, just evenly spaced bumps.

It is a DA port, and I believe a DA cyl. It has to be a DA cyl, no way for gravity to work the cylinder, is mounted level wih the ground, works like a log spliter.

Quick connects are good, checked that first, then switched hoses around, did"nt help.

Can't say for sure what your trouble is, but have had a loader that went up with a full bucket of manure then refused to go down. The cause was a tip that had blown an O ring stopping oil from returning. Had the same thing happen while running a hydraulic grain auger. Try replacing your hydraulic tips that plug into your tractor. That was on a 5600 tractor too. Joe
