Still leaking oil, look @ Pics

Tractor is still leaking oil. Is there a seal behind the pully I'm pointing at? When running it appears the oil is spinning off from inside the rear pully. I'v looked in all my manuals and can't see a seal that goes there. Please help. Thanks. It's a 1959 871 diesel.

There is also a seal on govner shaft that will leak when shaft/bushing gets worn and the seal just wears out over time. Think orginal was leather.

I don't but I'll bet someone else will chime in, I don't know what tractor and engine that is, they would need to know that as well. MK

I would certainly clean the whole thing, run it, and make sure it is not dripping from somewhere else before replacing anything, once it's wet with oil, it's hard to tell where it's coming from.

I did what you said. I took all the pullies and belts off and sprayed the front of the engine down with brake cleaner so everything was dry and started the engine. There is no oil coming from the crank seal. I cant see where else oil could be coming from. When everything was on there was alot of oil splatter coming off the lower pully. Now nothing with everything off.

Well, you may need to get it all dry, put it all back together and run it and look, run it and look, until you see some evidence. Identifying the oil as engine, power steering etc would help narrow it down. MK

I noticed when my power steering fluid got warm it leaked out of the lid. I had a new gasket so I put it on and now I can't find anything else that might leak. Thanks for all your help guys!!! I'll run it a bunch tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.

Good ya figuired it out.I was going to say I had the same thing happen to me.You can see the oil has a reddish tint to it and in your 1st pic ya have your finger on the belt on that goes to the PS and it looks like there is some fluid high on that side.
Too bad all tractor problems weren't that easy to figure out!!

Not on a diesel. Gov shaft applies to carbureted engines only!

What? Can't you read? OP named tractor an engine in original post and there's no indication he edited that info in later.

You got me. You forum police are pretty tough around here. I am guilty of trying to help and reading too fast, so arrest me !

It was the pesky gasket on the power steering resavoir. I thought I was in for a teardown again. Thanks for everybodys help. I couldn't do this tractor rebuild without all your help from the guys on this forum. I'll get some pics up in a few days. It will finally be as done as I'm going to do. It's a work tractor not a show piece. It is an original gold demo. It has a brand new SOS tranny and a little new paint and she's ready to earn her keep.
