I am a little confused about the difference between a 860 and a 861. Please educate me a little bit. Is HP different? Any information will be appriciated. Thanks

860 was made from 1955 to 1957 and had the 172 engine but also had the smaller carb. The 861 was made from 1958 to 1962 and had a larger carb and still the same 172 engine. Both are pretty much the same HP but the later 861 had some small improvements to it

The 861 has a larger carburetor, air cleaner, exhaust and a bit higher compression ratio.

It developes nearly 5 more HP on the PTO but most of the increase is of limited usefulness as it is mostly found at or near rated RPM.

The 861 will also use noticeably more fuel.

Not much but they both are excellent machines.

For the most part... cosmetics! Dash, center of hood and emblem nose cone are red on the 861. The grill is two piece and VERY different on the 861. And the fenders are shaped different. Otherwise as the other guys have said carb and exhaust manifold are about it. The added horse power isn't justified for the extra fuel used. And yes it is a noticeable difference on the fuel used.
