I know this is an old subject but I have searched the archives and cannot find any instructions on replacing the "O" fing in the fuel shut-off valve. Could I get another post on this procedure. Pictures would help this old man understand. Thanks

I haven't done it myself but I believe there is a rivitt that you can drill or punch out which allows you to remove the valve stem. Replace the oring and then install a new rivitt or small bolt.

Which type of valve do you have?

Because the screw type can be bought for around $25, I no longer try to repair them. The lever type is not so easily repaired.

Roadman,

I bought a new valve from New Hooland but when I saw how flimsy the screen on it was I fixed my old one instead. Easy to fix.

The screen on the old one was very fine like the ones on high end coffee machines metal filters.

The screen on the brand new one was way to coarse and felt cheap like it came from China.

As Ultra said, you can remove the valve screw rivet. Catch the edge of the rivet with a knife blade and carefully pry it out. Remove the valve screw and replace the o-ring with a Viton O-ring, then tap the rivet hole for a #8 screw, blow out the debris and then reinstall the valve screw. Screw it in and then install the set screw. I used a gas resistant sealant on the set screw just to be sure it did not leak.

If you decide to drill the rivet out, be very careful, the dril must be perfectly centered so you don't end up with and elongated hole.

Hope this is what you were looking for.
