860 vane vs. piston pump

I have a "55 860 with a Vickers vane hydraulic pump which loses prime if the tractor sits idle for more than about 12 hrs. Tried a top cover & manifold seal kit, no change. I hear the conversion to piston pump is not easy, and rebuilding the vane pump is expensive. What"s the better option? It seems that conversion could be accomplished by removing the vane pump & manifold and bolting on the piston pump with its manifold -- what am I missing?

Thanks,

conversion to the piston pump is unvolting the vane pump and plumbing and boltoing the piston pump and plumbing in it's place, with appropriate new orings.. etc.

piston pumps go up fro sale on the classifieds and ebay and what not all the time.. some people here may even have parts..
