made a few mods to my bucket to attach my 3pt hay spear into the bucket. added a chain retainer at the top and at the rear base, and added some angle iron to the lower front prongs to hold into the bucket. lower chain keps spear in bucket when backing up.. upper chain retains spear in bucket when lifting.

works good!

thanks to the replies the other day for prompting me to get on this. the 3pt spear was setting unused in the back of the barn...

Looks a lot like one I did for a friend years ago. But the one I did was made for a pick up truck and winch set up. So the chain part of it holds it form rotating down and the lower area I welded a piece on that has one 1/2 inch bot that hols it in the bucket. Just be careful I have one on my 841 and the 2nd bale I picked up or should I say tried to pick up the bottom of my bucket peels out so I ended up rebuilding the bottom of my bucket and now use a chain from corner to corner to add to how strong the bottom of the bucket is

lifted just fine.

on the rear I have a 3pt cement counterweight.. it was already about 600#, and I added another 200 # of pillow blocks to it, plus 2 old 30# wheel weights for a 'red machine' I had laying around. so got plenty of ballast.

someone has already scabbed some 1/2 plate stiffeners along the bottom of the bucket.. so it looks pretty good.

This bale spear started life as a 3pt hitch spear, and will still work as such. It has been adapted to mount on the backhoe bucket with only 2 pins, and now sees most of it's use on the MF 271-XE with the Farmhand loader. Mounts to the loader with 4 pins.
