I finally got to try the 860 out on a decent 15" snow drop. Loaded tires, rear blade, sore neck!!

What a machine compared to the 8N...I may have to retro the front plow that I have for the 8N to fit the 860.....or....look for a 19-80 Frame.

U.Dog----may have to trade one of the N's up for a blue one..:>)

Tim:

I have a couple of 8Ns, which I love, as well as a very good 860 and a couple of other vintage Fords.

Once you graduate from an 8N to an 860 you will never look back for most jobs.

Nice looking 860. Add a set of heavy pie weights and you will be amazed by what it will do.

If you plan to use it for mowing be sure to get a decent front bumper.

Dean---I have been looking for a year for a nice set of pie weights (distance is usually the killer) and had to resort to putting CaCl in late Oct.....

Make sure you let me know when you decide to let go of one of your xtra sets (delivered to WI of course):>)

I have weights on one of my 8N's and I know it really helped that little tractor a lot....

Ditto! Tim, might check with Stronjny in Mosinee, last time I was there he had a couple of sets of pie weights.

Nice looking tractor. Weight makes a HUGE difference in the snow. Of course, once you get a blue one (3/4000, right?), your 860 will get the same treatment your 8N is now experiencing...

FF---your prediction could be right on....I have a 51 N that might be on the auction block this year. They sure are hard to part with though.

That will leave room for maybe a 1000 series???

I may have to change my handle to "blue boy"....

Put a set of decent tractor chains on it and you will be amazed at how much better it will push.

In my area, we have months of snow and ice most winters. My tractors are more or less useless on ice without chains, but pretty good with them.

I have a very heavy rear blade that will pivot to several angles and will turn all the way around to push snow backwards. But most of the time, I just angle the blade and plow going forwards. Then I just do some clean up by backing up and using the back of the blade. Lots easier on the neck going forwards a large share of the time.

Chains are really worth having if you do much snow plowing. Weight helps traction too, but not nearly as much as chains. Good luck!
