860 Hood and sheet metal

Are the hoods for the 800 and 801 series different sizes? I have an 860 that a previous owner attempted to restore (I use the term loosely) the sheet metal. The hood on it right now doesn"t close properly and appears to be too narrow and a bit long. The paint is coming off and it appears to have a coat of red underneath. I know the hoods between these tractors are different part numbers but can"t find any information on the dimensions.

I can't see any difference between the ones on my 901s and my 900. I can tell you though that even though a nose cone can appear to be straight it can be bent in enough to make a tight fit for the opening section, and that the holes in the side sections and the end sections can be just big enough to allow the sides to spread too much for the center panel. Many tractors were given "paint upgrades" to make them look like the newer model.

That seems likely. My nose cone does appear to go off to the left more than it should. They also bondo'd all the sections together. I'd like to find a complete hood replacement. I'm hopeful that Dennis Carpenter will produce their replacements soon.

00 have Ford script on sides, 01 have no script. I have in my storage shed very good sheet metal for 800 series including fenders, but no grill. I also have very good sheet metal off of an 801 SOS. Both have some minor surface rust so they look better the closer you examine them. I do believe all of these are basically interchangeable between 600-601 and between 800-801. But I could be wrong. I have another set of hood metal (no door) but including nose piece for a 2000 (no side script) here at the house.I did not mean to own so much stuff, but came upon it and bought it for friends who decided they didn"t want it. having hand fit alot of 00 and 01 sheet metal parts over the last couple years.. I'd say that you should be able to make it fit with some 'adjustments betweent he nose and rear dash cowl..

Have you ever put 600 metal on a 800 or 801? The parts book suggests that they all fit. My 4000 (172) sheet metal (that's what it said on the decals) was on a 134 on top of a high-boy spray tractor. I have dog legs and side panels (no hinged door , no grill no dash, no fenders). I bought them to put on a good 841 that i have. The mounting bolt holes appear higher on the 172s cast. Do you know if the "dash" metal is longer for the 172s? I think the steering column is longer. Sure is easier to put a battery in a 172 than a 134 cause there is more clearance. Always appreciate your posts. Cordially, Mike

dash and cowling is 100% the same size from the naa thru the 4000 4 cyl as far as I can tell.

keep in mind there are differences in mounting points on a rowcrop vs an ag chassie when you are looking at the 600/800 vs the 700/900
