64 Ford 4000 Fuel Shut-off

Got tired of replacing the lever type fuel shutoffs on a 64 4000, (3 of 'em in 5 years) the seal around the shaft would leak.

Tried fixing the last one , but boogered up the metal that holds the plunger in, got aggravated and JB Welded the plunger in place... couldn't close it but it didn't leak, and the needle and float were good on the carb, no problems.

Until a month ago when I dropped the tractor off to get rear tires put on, they pulled the tractor in their shop overnight, had gas on the floor in the morning.

Found Hobo's fix for a 600, didn't do the loop like he did, just cut out a piece of the line and put in the valve.

Napa part #WH A6770 for the 5/16 valve, cost 12.29 for the valve.

Cost me another 8 bucks for shipping, probably would have saved that had I waited for their regular weekly shipment, had I known that when I told 'em to get it I'd have waited.

Anyway, been on about a month, works like a champ.

Happy Thanksgiving

on one of my work tractors I cut the line back, added in 2 pieces of fuel hose and used a brigs and stratton fuel shutoff. was about 4.99.. as you say.. works good. easier to repalce than the oem.. though that one can be saved with some care usually. just takes time to swap the oring and tap out the rivit for a screw.

It wasn't the aggravation of installing it as much as the $50 every year and a half for a new shutoff.

Finally said "Enough is enough"

Hope you guys got your fill of turkey today.

most of us pry or drill the rivit out, tap the hole for a machine screw, then pull the stem and repalce the oring, and repalce the oring on the base and slap it back in.. usualy holds another year for the price of a couple orings..

the brass part and the pot metal rarely go bad that quick.

Pardon the OT:
Hey Sound,
Talked to Mr. Harris last week, said he had an 800 out back in the weeds if your interested. Shout at me if you don't have his new number, old shop # goes through to NH dealer.

Yeah, I think when I filled it with JB weld it was one of those aggravation things, go to use the tractor, turn on the fuel, and the stupid valve's leaking AGAIN.

Probably had I taken my time I could have gotten it apart without boogering it up.

But when it's hay season........

I hear ya. it ain't like no one else hasn't done it before.
