Hope this helps you with your paint colors

The 641 was painted red with the exception of the grill, fenders and wheels which were gray. The red is a different shade than the 600 or 800's, it is a more orangish red. The gray was more of a buff color.

There has been much discussion about original color shades. CNH sells their paint which is supposed to match the original colors. If I recall correctly about $50 per gallon. I believe it is an arylic enamel. If you want to spend more on paint, buy a spray can of the red and gray, paint some metal and have your auto paint store match the colors.

Go to the link and scroll down to the 01's and you'll see a photo of a 601 that has been restored. Hope this helps.

That sure is s good looking tractor. Is that the Ford Vermillion Red and the light gray?
That is the color I want mine.Thankd for the reply

Don't know the exact name of the colors. I bought it from SW-Automotive in Glendale, AZ. (623) 931-0018 - Told them it was the orange red for the 861 and the medium gray (greenish tint). Its acrylic enamel. We had bought paint from them for an 8N and 640 and really liked their colors so we tried it with this one. I'm very happy with the color.
Red Formula - K2B-94902-120119
Grey Formula - K2E-42147-00
There's also the hardener and activator.
Good luck.

Vermillion red is the color used on the hundred series tractors. Here's the NH codes that you'll be happy with. Red M1J-956-SE5DSLF; Gray M1-957-SE5DS. The cans will indicate the years 39/62 however the color changed with the XX1 series. When the red is applied it is the orangish red used on the XX1 series tractors. Bottom line is this, your tractor, paint it the color that makes you happy. Hope this helps.

Ah but the 801 series was painted different then the 601 series was. The 601 had a whole lot more red on them and very little gray. Nice looking tractor but not sure on that 861 decal since my 841 only said 801 on the hood nothing about the true model number

Thanks for the replys now what is the best way to get the old off? I have a small sandblaster the little hand held type and I have a pressure washer.
Is there anymore suggestions I'm worried about sand in the engine or the lift I want to get it ready for so paint. Thanks

Its a working tractor and its mine. I like it the way it is. Sorry if I offended you. Guess I'll just stop posting here.

I use a degreaser several times, pressure wash then paint. I am not doing fine restorations, generally just making them cleaner & better. I would not use a sandblaster just as you said because the sand does get everywhere.

I degrease them pressure wash, then use the black 3m pads, flap discs and wire wheels to strip paint.

I have heard that when the first 6x1, 8x1 etc. were produced they had all three numbers designating the exact model, 641, 651, 841, 851 etc.. At some point, and I don’t know the date, the bean counters decided it would be cheaper to stop printing all the numbers and use a generic identification, 601, 801 etc. Unless you cared to research that date, and I think Tony Jacobs knows, I am not sure it matters.
