1965 Ford 4000 Draft control lever

I assume this is the draft control lever? My question is .... how much is it supposed to move and exactly what is it supposed to do?

Mine does not seem to move very much at all .... and will not stay in any position other than where it is at now. If I bump the lever down while the rear 3pt is in position anywhere between bottom and top the 3pt moves up with each bump.

You should be able to push the draft control lever down. It should sort of snap into place and stay there. Up for most 3 point work, down is mostly for plowing.
The other knob is the flow control. It adjusts the speed that your 3 point raises. You hardly ever use it.

Which way do you turn the knob to achieve which result? Clockwise makes it react faster or slower?

This reflects a similar issue with my 4500 (the one with 3 point should have same 3-point the 4000 has, AFAICT). The "hydraulic selector lever" (the little one with the not-quite forked end) sits about there, which the manual claims is the position for draft control - supposed to go up nearly 90 degrees (lever more or less upright) for position control, but does not. Don't want to force it and break something. Or break something further. Won't go up that far, won't stay up when pulled up as far as it goes.

Per manual, the flow control knob makes things faster (draft or position) when screwed "in" (they don't specify CW/CCW) and slower when "out", and has no effect when the lift control lever (the one on the quadrant) is raised all the way to the top.

That lever does not want to go higher than it is right now. Any suggestions as to why and what it would take to fix it?

you draf lever is shown all the way down.. for draft mode... turn it all the way up for position mode. ie pointing up instead of pointing down.

I see you are using the Modern View version for your posting here. This board is predominately Classic View. I think you will find there is a much better continuity in your threads if you use Classic View on this board.

Bill,
The lever on my 4000 has the two positions of horizontal and Down. The owners manual shows the lever to have horizontal and UP. I don't know what, if or when the difference was made or if mine is simply worn out.

Lower the control lever fully then pull the draft lever up. Pull hard. It will eventually snap up at which point it should be in position control.

How hard? Dont want to break it and then realize I pulled to hard. It makes a metallic "clunk" when I pull up on it.

Lever moves freely for about an inch and then the clunk .... lever stops.

After some reading it seems maybe I have a cam or a pin problem?

I am not willing to tear into the rear lift myself .... anyone know how many shop hours a repair like this normally would take?

I wouldn't put a bar on it... but you need to get a good grip and pull on some of them...
Try pushing down also. I think it should go up but it doesn't hurt to try. Make sure th arms are down tho. That makes a difference.
