My 860 at full speed is charging 30+. I put a new voltage reg. on it last night but it is the same. It is a 6 volt system. I need help. Larry

that is a b circuit system.

at high rpm, disconnect the field wire from the vreg.. does charge drop off? no? disconnect field wire from genny.. charge drop off? yes.. then field and armature are shorted in the wire harness.

Just my two cents worth,..but did you polarize the V-reg. after installing it? If not,.. give it a try. Otherwise I"d follow Soundguy"s advice about a shorted wire. Also,..you may have a bad v-reg and the contacts may be sticking. I bought a new 6-volt V-Reg and it was bad,..wouldn"t charge no matter what i did. New electrical parts are famous for being faulty,(especially if it is made in China).

Larry:

Most likely the field and ground wires are reversed at the generator OR at the voltage regulator.

Not uncommon at all and most folks do not notice as the battery remains charged, albeit with reduced life.
