850 power steering

I just searched the archives for the past year re: power steering, and believe someone out there can answer my question. My 850 came with a Ford Escort power steering pump (I think). It didn"t work fast enough, so I put on another of the same, with the same results. I just finished fabbing brackets for a mid-70s Chevy pump, and results are the same again. With a pressure gauge hooked up per repair manual instructions, the three pumps all generate only 700 PSI. The manual says I should have 1350 psi. This sounds like a relief valve issue. Where do I find the relief valves in these pumps, and can I buy other valves? Thanks in advance for any help.

Wish I could answer yer question,,, I have a 850 with a Nissan pump that's also slow,,,, I spec the chevy relief valve is behind the nut (1") were the pressure line screws into the pump.... theirs a spring behind it for sure,,, I would tighten up the spring are stretch it

I have the chev pump in my 860 and it works great. It was recommended to me by Jackson Power Steering.

Thanks for the pointers. In following up thru Google I have discovered that my Ford pumps are from a Taurus, and rebuilds appear to be pretty staightforward. Can't find any reference as to what the pressure on the Ford or Saginaw pumps should be. For Jimmyjack- what do you run for fluid in your Saginaw? OEM fluid in the tractor is universal tractor fluid (M2C41), OEM in the Chevy is ATF.
