ford 2000 determine the year question

I have a ford 2000 4 speed adjustable front axle, would like to determine what year it is. On top left corner of transmission, all I can make out is either a 201 or 801 or something 01. Under that is a 04 Diamond sign. On rightside is: conn 6015G, 310835, with 1964 between a pair of diamonds. Any idea of the year, as my hydraulics wont lift, but if I hold them up manually, pto engaged, lift arm handle pulled all the way up, lift arms will stay up. puzzled as to the possible problem.

Is it a 3 cylinder or 4 cylinder engine? If it is a 4 cylinder and it says 801, then it is an 801, not a 2000. Here are a couple of links to information on identifying Ford tractors.

It is a 4 cyl., as you are looking at the numbers, the something 01 numbers are on top, under this is the 04 with a diamond stamp to the right of this.

If you go to the "old ford tractors" link Sean provided and scroll all the way to the bottom of the page you will find a section labeled "Decoding the 5 digit model numbers on 2000-4000 series tractors". That is where you need to look but you will need your entire 5 digit code to decipher it.
Is your tractor a diesel by any chance? The diesels were famous for dropping battery acid on the Model and Serial numbers, partially or completely corroding them away.

AWHTX, thanks. This is a gas tractor. I did go to the suggested site, I had been to it before, and noticed the CONN 6015C which this one has. This all has to do with, I have a hydraulic lift problem, and need to know the year so I can address the problem. Any place else I can get numbers to determine an exact year, or is the 1960-1964 range all I need to know ?

even a 4 cyl won't be stamped '801' it would be stamped.. maybee 841.. but not *0*

AWTHX, just relooked and the 5 digits may be 21201, just guessing, above the 04 diamond. These are located near the starter, on top of the transmission housing. On the rightside engine is CONN 6015G, on rightside of transmission is the 310835, below that is a 1964.

CONN 6015G is a 134cid engine from '63-'64. You most likely have a 4 cyl 'prior' 2000 of that era. PLENTY 'close enough' to get ANY parts you may need.

Your tractor is a 1963 or 1964 2000. If you order parts I wouldn't say "I need a gizmo for a 1963 2000" as they'll probably sell you the same part for a 1965 and later 3 cylinder 2000 which is a completely different tractor. Just tell them you need a gizmo for a 1960 641 and it will fit your tractor. Also, you need manuals that cover the 600/800/601/801 and 4 cylinder 2000/4000.
