860 missing, help?

We just finished overhauling our 860 gas with new rings and bearings. I rebuilt the carb and had the dist. re-bushed. Head work was done a few years ago. At first it started right up and I was tickled. After a few hours it started missing on #1 and #4. The same darn thing that it did before the overhaul. This problem is why we put the bushings in the distributer. We tried the obvious tune-up before. #2 and #3 are still firing good. What about adding petronix? Anybody have a similar experience or advice while I continue to beat my head against the shop wall?

pull the cap off and manuall roll the engine over and observe the points working.. is there wear on the distrib cam?

good spark out of the coil on each cycle? ( add a plug to the coil wire to test.. ground plug to head or something.. etc..

As Sound says and also take a propane touch un-lit and wave it around the manifold with it turned on. If engine RPMs change then you have a problem with the manifold or gasket or even a bad place on the head where the manifold bolts on
