12 volt points

I have a 640 ford tractor that has been converted to an eltronic 12 volt system. I am looking for information to install the old point and condenser system.I have removed the eletronic coil and reinstalled the points and condenser but i don't know how to wire from my 12 volt coil to the points. thanks ed

First off no such thing as 12 volts points. Point is points no matter the voltage. Well the condenser goes to the screw on the points and the non-ignition side of the coil also goes to the points. Points should be set at 0.025 Hope that fills in the gaps for you

that's where the oem wire diagram in the manual comes in handy.

assuming you have a real 12v coil like a napa IC14SB that needs no resistor, then you wire from your key switch to one side of the coil.. from the other to the lil feed thru insulator in the distrib.. from there is a small conductor that hits the points and condensor lead.. other side of points is grounded.

if you are 12v neg grnd, then the (-) side of the coil is hooked to the distrib.

be sure to wire the coil correctly.. if pos ground or if neg ground..

if neg ground.. the points wire to the minus on the coil.. and battery goes to the plus side... if pos ground then the opposite...

also as said earlier some coils require a resistor and others dont.. you need to know which coil you have... good luck.. bill

Old is correct. The coil will be rated for the voltage. You will need a ballast resistor if using a 6V coil on 12V with points.
