Thermostart

Hi everybody, I hope all of you had a happy Thanksgiving.

I am going to add a thermostart to my 3000 and need a little help. First, I have searched and am familier with the unit and how it works. I even know where to get one. I need to know where it is mounted on the intake manifold? Could someone take a picture and post it maybe? I am wanting to mount it in its original location if I can and looks like it is a little tight under the hood with that monster battery. No worries about machining the manifold, wiring, plumbing or any of that. I just need a starting point. Thanks in advance, Billy P.

There should be a place in the manifold at the front of it. The manifold should be drilled for it. In addition you will need the line to furnish diesel to the thermostart valve.

My tractor never had it so I do not think it is drilled but I will look it over for a plug in the manifold. I have no problem drilling the manifold, replacing the ignition switch, wiring and providing a fuel line for the thermostart. I just would like to know where and how it mounts: horizontally or vertically and as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

There should be a boss near the front of the manifold with a "pipe plug" in it to mount the Thermostart unit.
If it"s not there, spend your money on a block heater. According to the manual on my Ford 4610, the thermostart is good to 5F. It never did that well for me and I put a block heater in and one hour of running it gets me quick starts in any temperature I have encountered.

Look at the attached link for a 4100. Look at the location of the thermostart. This is simpler and has less parts than the 3000 and the early 4100 had. Maybe this will give you an idea where to look on the manifold to install the thermostart.

If you will look on the front of the manifold and just behind where the air cleaner hose attachs is where the opening should be it will be facing the inside and toward the engine.

Here you go.

you guys are awesome as always! My tractor does have that plug so now I just need to by the plug, switch and make or buy a fuel line.

Ultradog MN, I feel bad you took your tractor apart to help ole Billy out. You didn't have to do that for me! LOL! Thanks again.
