860 and it's uses

How many folks here own an 860 and what are the things you use it for?

Just want to get a feel for things my tractor can do.

mighta been built in '54 but there's no such thing as a '54 860. It's a '55 at the earliest.

Web, we had an 850. Same thing except no live pto. We did the normal farm work with it. Plow,plant cultivate,mow hay,fit ground with it(disk and harow). Used it for alot of things. It was our biggest tractor for awhile. Pulled a 1 row Dearborn cornpicker and 100bu.wagon. We never put a loader on it.This should give you an idea. We had a belt pully and flat belt and used it to run a buzz saw.

It was a good tractor for us.

Well, I don't have an 860, but my row crop 4000 is close 'nuff. I use it mostly for mowing and road maintenance, but it gets put into service for all kinds of stuff, like when I'm cutting down a tricky tree and I need to pull it over with a line through a snatch block.

Where the old Ford really saves the day is wintertime when everything else gets stuck. Last winter my wife high-centered her Trailblazer right in the driveway. A few years back the UPS truck got stuck in our drive; the driver was sure glad to see me come home early from work. That truck didn't have posi and was completely helpless, but the 4000 pulled him right up the ice-covered driveway.

WD:

I have a 55 860 that I have used mostly with a 6' rotary cutter. I also occassionally use it with a 6' HD box blade, slip scoop and boom pole.

Mine has dual remotes and heavy front and rear weights.

It has been and remains a favorite.

As I bought a new New Holland T4050 today, the 860 as well as my 4 other vintage Fords will likely go up for sale sometime within the next few months. Mixed emotions, but space considerations dictate that some or all must go.

Had a 64 model 4000, same thing. Biggest little tractor I ever owned. Wish I had it back.

My 850 looks almost identical, wagner loader, but has 2 way cylinders both loader arms and bucket, 2 bucket cylinders instead of just one in the center+ it's LPG powered. It was well worn out when I got it, but I've repaired a lot of things on it and it's done a ton of work in the 7 years I've had it.

I've done some clearing around overgrown fields, to establish a perimeter again, I mow with a rotary cutter, maybe 15-20 acres, clear snow, move things, I have loaded tires and a heavy counter weight, front pivot pin is worn, I have a spare assembly for rebuild, I've used a post hole digger on it, and just a myriad of other things, as well as having done several paying jobs with it, landscape work and even used it to remove 2 post vehicle lifts on a job I did, all around utility tractor, hope to upgrade to something industrial like a 545C or similar, you can't beat having a tractor this size for so many chores and tasks.

Discing up a swath near our 20 acre pond, after plowing with a 2 bottom ferguson plow, power company left some ruts, good excuse to plow and disc.

I have a 55 860 and an NAA, both restored. The 860 is quite a bit more tractor, but I really like them both. It is a 3 bottom plow, but I pull a 2 bottom. I love the power steering. I also have an 86 CaseIH 3 cyl diesel. The ford is still my worker.

Ok.. it's not an 860.. but it's an 850.. pretty much same deal on power.. etc.. for non pto uses.

here's what mine will do. that's a close to 1000# tifton bale on my 1-arm laoder.. I DO have a ratchet strap holding the bale to the bucket.

My 850 does all my round bale moving.

That's pretty close to the same as my 850. We use ours to mow, maintain the road, move bales. Pretty much everything.

If I could get my dang 3pt lift working again I'd be set
