One-Arm Loader Valve

I recently purchased a One arm for my 3000. I havent picked it up yet but am already starting to get ready to mount it. I have questions about the type of valve required as I do not really understand after looking at them on-line and end up with more questions than answers.....

first of all, I have the port under the seat that allows you to select between 3-point, aux out, or both at the same time. I would like to mount a valve either on the loader or close to it and not under the seat. I will feed the return ibnto the top of the rear axle fitting where you service it by tapping and installing a fitting. I also want to keep the costs as low as possible.

Second, the loader is a trip type so I only need a single valve but have considered converting it to hyd tilt by building my own brackets so I would need a dual valve at some time in the future. Can I buy a dual valve and cap-off the unused side for a later date?

do I need a three port or four port? Open or closed center? does the float option matter and what is it used for?

As far as plumbing goes, does the cylinder return thru the valve also? I see most valves have a inlet and outlet port as well as work ports. Which is which?

Sorry for all of the questions, but I just do not know which way to go. Thanks in advance.

with the number of questions you have on hyds, especially ford hyds.. I'd suggest you DO get the valve that mounts under the seat.. even if you only get a single valve, and opt to later run a dual valve on the laoder itself, just using the single valve under the seat as an oil supply. could always just divert oil over to a loader valve as well.. but you lose use of the 3pt during that time.. the valve mounted under the seat lets you use the loader and 3pt without the finagle of opening a valve or locking the 3pt.

whatever outboard valve you get must be open center.

the large lift cyl ont he 1-arm laoder is single acting, and thus exhaust back thru the same line. many dual port valve have the ability to setup one side as SA, and the other is DA.. the sa side would be for the lift cyl, and the da for the bucket cyl.

you could always get a dual valve and just remove the da sides handle and cap the ports till you needed it.

I've got a few 1-arm laoders and run them in different ways.. a coupl eof them have under seat dual da valves for the hyd bucket models. a couple have the 3pt chained down and use the 3pt lift control as the loader lift ( trip dump ), and another uses a selectrol vavle to divert between 3pt and loader. the selectrol valve is better thant he chained down arms as you can switch back and forth to use the 3pt as needed.. but neither hold a candle to the valves under the seat.. it's the cat's meow for ease of use / most options.

Thanks again Soundguy. I have this toplate on my 3000 hyd cover:

Which of these valves would be the best choice:

or this as a 2-way:

If you already have a selectrol diverter valve on your top cover so that you can lock out the 3pt and send oil out the port on the top of the valve, and you have a single acting lift cyl, then the 2nd one that also mentions it is open center would be a possible choice. I'm doing something similar with a prince single/duasl (convertable) action, single spool log splitter valve.. cheap valve just for the trip dump loader.. found it at tsc for 89$.. has in and out ports, and then the 2 working ports, one of which just gets capped.. inlet from the selectrol valve, and outlet returned to sump.

by the way.. just dropping the address to a pic in the message won't make it post.. there are palces under the message for linking pics.. or you can type in the direct html tags to include pics..

plus.. also helps to reply to a specific persons message.. otherwise we don't get a reply notification.. like in this case, where you replied to your own message.

Ok, I think I am getting an idea on which way to go. The reason I do not want to go valves under seat is due to expense. I am sure they work great but are really expensive compared to a cheap 100.00 valve.

I have found a few used, condition unknown, dual valves I can get my hands on cheap but they may be defective or they could be fine - only one way to tell.......

Are most loader control valves open center? Is there a chance that the "unknown" could damage either the hydraulic actuator or tractor hydraulic system say if it were a closed center? Sorry for all of the dumb questions, I have a working knowledge of hydraulics as you get on aircraft but they are plumbed completely different and we do not get to re-engineer them only remove and replace exact part number components.

I also did not know about replying to an individual message to flag the sender to reply. I have learned a lot today! THis reminds of the one big thing I really learned in college: How much I really do not know!

I am excited about my new loader except for the fact that I have to build my own brackets but I have a machinest friend who will help and I will weld them up. Doesnt seem like to big of a deal from all of the pictures I looked at on this website so we shall see.

Thanks again for the help, I really appreciate it.
