I have a ford 8600 I had to replace the hi-low shift lever when I
bought it. I can't get it to shift into high, but low to neutral is fine.
There is no visible gear problems the shift collar doesn't even make
it to the high gear. I keep thinking it has to be something simple
any help would be appreciated. I am running out of hair to pull
out.

Lever and case yes, but I replaced the internal shift lever that goes thru the case. The top of the transmission is off and the adjustments seem to be ok.

When replaceing the arm the shaft arm on the inside can slip out of the slot in the fork and get hind the fork and will only egage the low side. Kinda hard to desribe look on the parts diagram and see if it gets clearer. I split an 8000 because of the arm out of the fork I remembered when I saw it 30yrs since the last time I worked on one.

Thanks for the help but the shift lever is properly inside the shift fork. I'm not really set up to split the tractor, but I'm not seeing anything else. I hope somebody can come up with a simple solution. Any help is appreciated.

Jason,Its been awhile since i was in one them big boys but,i would disconnect the linkage from the shift lever and see if i could shift it into high range that way.If i could not i would suspect worn teeth on the high range gear or coupler. If i could shift it by hand on the lever then,i would adjust the linkage a little shorter to make it go in.The shifters used on those tractors gave a few problems because of the lenght of the linkage and wear over time. Also check that shift lever for slippage on the fork.
