Power Steering Reservoir

I just filled my PS reservoir after fixing a leaking line. The shop manual shows a gasket between the lid and reservoir. Its a 1963 2000. My question is can I make one out of a sheet of cork gasket material or does it have to be rubber.

Gasket paper should be fine if it is thick enough such that the clamp will tighten the lid enough to prevent leaks. Cork should work too but might prove a bit fragile for repeated removal and reinstallation unless you are careful. Seal the new gasket to the lid with gasket sealer.

All of the reservoir lid gaskets that I have seen are neoprene, as is the CNH service part. Though I cannot say with certainty, I expect that the original gasket was neoprene.

I agree with dean.. thick gasket paper should work.. heck.. innertube would probably work too..

My rubber gasket wasn't thick enough to seal, so I improvised and used cereal box cardboard in addition to the rubber gasket. The two together made it thick enough to seal and have been going strong ever since I bought the tractor. Yes, I'm cheap....but it works. 8)

Cap # D2NN3A006B available separate and may-B from this site,,, i don't think i would use cork ,,, mite go to cut'n up a 5 gal bucket for a seal but would spec its gonna B to thick,,, my 3000 had a new pump and the rubber seal is all swelled up and it makes it a PITA to get the cap back on,,, I plan to order a new cap and hope the seal is better than the one that came on it,,, it needs to fit tight what ever you use
