Thanks to some of you my tractor is purring like a kitten. I have a few other questions. First how do you check and fill the power steering fluid. Second how do you check the hydrolic fluids.

If you have the PS resevior on top the pump with a lid clamped to it, you need to remove the clamp and the lid. Otherwise it should have a dipstick in the filler cap.

The hydraulic dip stick is near your left heel as you sit in the seat. If by "hydraulics" you mean all but engine, the transmission has a pipe plug on the right side ahead of and below the running board and the rear axle has a pipe plug on the rear of the left trumpet housing.

Thanks Larry, I found the Dip stich on the left by my foot and I dont have a stick on the powersteering so I guess I have to take the hood off to get to the top of the resevoir. I loosened the clamp but could not get the top to clear the hood.

Steve:

If you have the PS pump with the reservoir on top, you should change the filter that is inside the reservoir when you change the oil. Use CNH 134D or equivalent and fill to about 1/2" from the top of the reservoir.

You're welcome. But you shouldn't have to do anything with the hood to get to the steeering reservoir. Maybe take the clamp all the way off.

Maybe the belt is too long and moving the pump far enough to tighten the belt puts the reservoir up against the hood.

You think if I loosen the belt I could check it then tighten or even replace the belt. Do you think it would give me the clearance to check the fluid and change the filter.

Steve:

It sounds like your PS belt is too long or has stretched badly. Might be a good time to replace it.

Installing the proper belt and adjusting the tension correctly should position the pump away from the hood.

Yes, you could back off on the adjuster and lower the reservoir to a position where you can get the cover off. I'll bet that the rim of your reservoir is not level when it is up against the hood and of course it should be level when you check the quantity. While you have it lowered why don't you go ahead and get a shorter belt and put it on?
