Again a 1963 Ford 2000 w/4 cyl gas burner.I seem to have a small hairline crack just a couple of inches below the head on exhaust side. It is a small but constant drip. Ive heard of Block sealer. Do you think this will work without having to get another block. If so, do you know of any you can pour in the cooling system and seal from there.

I have fixed hairline cracks in the water jackets of blocks with JB Weld and so far haven"t had one leak. You need to get down to the bare metal and clean it with paint reducer. It must be thoroughly dry, so you will have to drain the block first. If it is too cold to do that right now, block sealer is worth a try on a small crack. Just don"t use more than the directions on the container says, and follow the directions very carefully.

I forgot to add that there are several brands of sealer that are available that you pour into the coolant. Bars Leaks is one that I have used with good success, but there are others.

Chev dealer sells a stop leak that seems to work well. Cost is just over $5 and it is 5 pellets you just put in the cooling system then run the engine. Of course you can also drain the system clean the area real good and use JB weld on it. My self I would probably do both

Your CNH deler sells a pour in sealer that even claims to fix minor head gasket issues.. might try that..

Steve:

It sounds like your engine has a crack in the water jacket.

The best pour-in product that I have found for such problems is K&W Block Seal.

Be advised, you MUST follow the instructions precisely if you want it to work as intended. It also works best if you use it in hot weather as you may have difficulty getting the engine up to activation temperature in cold weather.
