The conversion was a complete success! I printed out John-in-LA"s post, and anotyher one I found on Genesee industries website.

Here was my cost- Everything from NAPA execpt the diode which came from Radio Shack.
Alternator- $48.35
core deposit- $10.00
Ignition coil- $44.63
12V head lights- 27.51 (2)
voltmeter- $20.08
terminal- $2.97
wire 10 gauge- 6.50
terminal block 15 studs- 6.99
terminal- 2.78
wire 14 gauge- 6.50
terminal- 2.97
12V battery (NAPA brand)- 54.40

So, out the door was around $235. It took me about 5 hours start to finish. I bought bigger spools of wire than I needed, and I have a bunch of terminals left over, but you can always use that stuff.

Tractor starts up on first crank, and the lights are nice and bright.

Yikes!!!! 43$ for an ignition coil? How many did you buy? 3 of them?

A NAPA IC14SB costs about 15$!!!!!!!!!!

( huge difference in price from an IC14 and an IC14SB.. but both are basically the same coil!!!! )

For the mounting bracket, I flipped the one mounted to the engine block, as per your post. I used the 3/8 all thread to mount the bottom. For the adjusting arm, I used a piece of 1" flat stock to go from the bolt hole in the front of the engine to the bolt hole in the adjusting arm. Pretty solid mount, no shakes or shimmys at low/ high RPM. Overall, a very satisfactory install. I really love how it cranks right up.

I"m pretty certain I have a 1955 860. There has been some sheet metal swapping in it"s past, as the hood ornament is from a 1954 NAA. Great tractor though- ready for work!
