850 steering box

My 850 I just got running is hard to steer particularly turning to the left. Any ideas where to start? I rebuilt the one on my dads 850 about 35 years ago. But don't remember anything but taking the whole thing off the top of bellhousing.

When you turn left the steering wheel shaft attempts to unscrew itself out the top of the steering box. If your top thrust bearing is shot it will be hard to turn left until the bearing disentegrates and then the shaft and steering wheel will start raising up toward you when you turn left.
It sounds like you need a new thrust bearing and you might as well replace seals, etc while you have it apart.
