Ford 3000 Right Brake Locking

As post states, right brake locks up when engaged and will not unlock unless I take a hammer to the linkage to free it.

Are there any common problems that can cause this or do I need to start tearing it apart to troubleshoot?

I looked at the shoes and they have about 1/16" remaining. Not new but enough to last a while I think. If they are worn too much can that cause this?

The tractor was recently painted before I purchased it and I am wondering if the rod going thru the differential is all painted up causing it to stick? Or, maybe it is bent? I lubed up everything and it is to no avail. At any rate, I have been using the left only for stopping at this time and would like to know any thoughts you all may have.

Thanks in advance for all of your help

There is a grease zerk on the back end of the R pedal. Make sure it's not froze up there. Undo the clevis pin, squirt some grease in and rock it till the grease works in and it turns freely on the shaft. Could also be froze up where the brake actuator rod enters the center housing.
If that doesn't do it then your shoes may be worn enough that the cam inside the drum is going "over the top". In that case you need new shoes.

make sure that you have the shoes adjusted so that you have no more than 1.5 inchs of free travel.. or as said, you can be turning the cam "over the top" and locking the brakes...

there is an adjustment slot on the bottom of the drum area for this.

I found the actuating rod stripped out and the shoes out of adjustment, after repairing both of these, it works fine...
